APPENDIX – A OF THE TRAINING COURSE OUTLINE


List of suitable airports and Cross Country routes approved  for flight training

The list of approved airports and cross-country routes provided below is based on the routes and airports designated for various training courses listed below.

Section A: Cross Country for Private Pilot Course

As part of the Private Pilot syllabus, students are required to complete three dual cross-country flights and three solo cross-country flights.

Cross Country No.1 : DPA – JVL – DPA
Cross Country No.2 : DPA – VYS – DPA
Cross Country No.3 : DPA – MLI – VYS – DPA

Flight Lesson 17 & 17A (Dual Cross Country)

  • This lesson will be conducted twice in order to complete two separate dual cross-country flights.

  • The first dual cross country must be Cross Country No. 1.

  • The second dual cross country must be Cross Country No. 2.

Flight Lesson 19 (Dual Cross Country)

  • Cross Country No. 3 will be conducted as a dual cross country.

  • The first leg from DPA → MLI will be flown during daylight hours.

  • The return legs from MLI → VYS → DPA will be flown during night time.

Flight Lessons 20, 20A, and 20B (Solo Cross Country)

  • The three cross countries (Nos. 1, 2, and 3) will then be repeated as solo cross-country flights, in the same sequence.

  • All three solo cross-country lessons must be conducted during daylight hours.

Section B: Cross Country for Instrument Rating Course

As part of the Instrument Rating syllabus, students are required to complete three cross-country training flights during Flight Lessons 24, 25, and 26.

Flight Lessons 24 & 25

  • May be completed with short cross-country flights.

  • Each flight must include a minimum straight-line distance of more than 50 NM and a landing at the destination airport.

  • Routes may be selected from the approved airport list provided on this page.

Flight Lesson 26

  • Must cover a minimum distance of 250 NM.

  • Requires an instrument approach at each airport.

  • Must include three different types of approaches.

  • Students must select one of the approved cross-country routes listed below, based on weather conditions and other safety considerations:
    1. DPA – MLI – JVL – DPA
    2. DPA – PIA – MLI – DPA
    3. DPA – LAF – BMI – DPA

    Section C: Addition approved X-C routes for flight time building:

    1. Touch and go at JVL ONLY.

    NO OTHER AIPORTS ARE AUTHORIZED FOR LANDING OR TOUCH AND GO.

     

    2. Touch and Go at VYS or JVL only.

    NO OTHER AIPORTS ARE AUTHORIZED FOR LANDING OR TOUCH AND GO.

     

    3. Touch and Go at VYS or JVL only.

    NO OTHER AIPORTS ARE AUTHORIZED FOR LANDING OR TOUCH AND GO.

     

    Section D: Long Cross Country for Commercial Pilot Course
    One cross-country flight of not less than 300 nautical miles total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, one of which is a straight-line distance of at least 250 nautical miles from the original departure point.

    Students must select one of the approved cross-country routes listed below, based on weather conditions and other safety considerations:

    1. DPA – MDH – DEC – DPA
    2. DPA – FOD – ALO – DPA
    3. DPA – RPD – MSN – DPA

    Section E: Additional list of suitable airports:

    • Cross country routes and airports not listed in Section A, B and C must be authorized by the Chief Flight Instructor.
